profile recovery

i use the windows 2000 on my local area network for file and print services.
this server is set up on an active directory domain.

last night, when the machine was restarting after an installation, due to a
power failure, the machine turned off automatically while it was logging off
the domain administrator (default) user. now when i start the machine and
log on with the administrator user account, it shows me a message saying
that the user's profile is corrupt and it loads a temporary profile. i dont
have any other users with administrative previllege and it won't even let me
create any more users with the active directory users and computers tool
because it can't connect to the domain controller. is there some way that i
can recover my user's profile?

any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated

It seems the trust relationship between your machine and the domain
got disturbed. You now need to ask your network administrator to
re-register the machine on the domain, or to give you a local account
name & password.

the machine is the only domain controller. but still.. since it was a new
setup without any clients yet, i de-promoted the domain controller off the
domain. now the problem still persists... actually i want that very profile
to work again... its there in the documents and settings folder under the
name 'administrator' but it doesn't function. opening the ntuser.dat.log
file from that folder, it returns an error saying that the file or the
folder is corrupt. will copying all the files and folders from that folder
to the temporary profile folder do or is it unrecoverable?

thanks..

The files stored in your profile folder are not affected by your
inability to log on (unless you encrypted them). You can therefore
copy them to any other location if you wish.

Something at the back of my head whispers something about
the iron rule of computing (back up all important files to an
independent medium every week), and about many people
chosing to ignore this rule until they suffer a king hit.
