Greetings,

Windows XP Home Edition crashed. I tried to repair, didn't work out. I want
to format but before I need to pull out my files from My Documents and
Desktop, I have C and D drives .. both NTFS ..

I installed the HDD on a different computer that has a running windows xp
(after I ran repair on command prompt and deleted the file
C:\Windows\System32\Config\SAM) I still can't access C:\Documents and
Settings\PROFILE-NAME .. it gives me ACCESS DENIED.

Is there a way to retrieve my files. Kindly assist.

Thanks and regards!

how do i disable simple file sharing?
the HDD is messed up already i initiated the repair process using XP Pro CD
even before i knew it was Home edition, but i was lucky that it didn't wipe
up or format C drive.
if i boot the HDD in the old machine it runs the XP installation wizard and
prompts for the CD.
what do i do now?

1. Open My Computer from the Start Menu or Windows XP Desktop. A new My
Computer window will appear.

2. Open the Tools menu and choose the "Folder Options..." option from this
menu. A new Folder Options window will appear.

3. Click on the View tab and locate the "Use Simple File Sharing
(Recommended)" checkbox in the list of Advanced Settings.

4. To enable Simple File Sharing, ensure this checkbox is checked. To
disable Simple File Sharing, ensure this checkbox is not checked. Click
inside the checkbox to alternately enable and disable the option.

5. Click OK to close the Folder Options window. The settings for Simple
File Sharing are now updated; no computer reboot is required
