Profile Default not being saved

A client running XP Pro and Outlook 2003 always asks for the Profile to be
selected when Outlook is started.

There is only one profile and the check box is checked to use it as the
default.

However, it appears the default isn't remembered and the request comes again
at each instantiation of Outlook.

Any suggestions?

Go to control panel, mail, display profiles, and select 'always use profile
X' (paraphrased).
