Hello all,

I am thinking about building a new PC again.

The last time i did it i got some good advice from Computer Gaming
World magazine (now Games for Windows?).

They had a regular series of articles like Lean Machine and Dream
Machine where they would build two PCs. One with the ultimate parts
and another with the best rated cheaper ones.

I found it a good starting point for research and ended up very
pleased with the rig i built.

However, it doesnt seem like Games for Windows has this feature.

Can you suggest any other sources that do this kind of thing?

I noticed a mag on the stand called Maxium PC. Any comments on this
source?

To build a pc that will last. you have to
1. Buy quality products from any of these sites

2. After getting the parts need to build a new pc.
i. make sure to read the mannes\ls carefully
ii. Put on a glove to prevent static electricity
iii. Put in the components properly and carefully
iv. Setup your bios properly
v. Install windows unlimited or vista
vi. Install only programs i mean soft ware you will need
vii. Cover your pc after use with dust cover.
viii. Create a password. i mean set a password on your pc to protect
your pc from intruders

IMO, CPU Magazine (Computer Power User) is a good enthusiast source, lots
of reviews of the latest stuff. They have a site too.

The usual sites are also great: Tom's Hardware, Anand's Corner, HardOCP,
etc. BTW, some of these guys write for CPU too...

Thank you all for the replies.

The reason i liked the Computer Gaming World articles is i could
directly compare a "top of the line" product with a recommended budget
option.

Plus, i liked having the whole system outlined instead of just
reviewing individual products.

It was a good starting point before i headed off to Tom's hardware and
some of the other sources.

Looks like i might have to do it just component by component.

and a extreme gaming option
