I had problems with a slow shutdown. Visited a microsoft newsgroup. Someone
recommended to run msconfig and deactivate certain services
in order to find the reason - familiar to me from Win 98, but without the
additional hassle as follows: at that time Windows said that the hardware
has changed and required renewing the product registration within 3 days.
This failed first because the microsoft reg site claimed that the code
number is already in use (sure, but the PC hasn't changed). Called the
service line, entered the 54-digit number (don't remind me of that session)
which also did not work. Finally a service representative gave me a
different release code, which worked - praise the lord. Took me half an hour
and I was in a bloodrush, after going through all this.
My question: how can you follow the above recommendation (the user specific
startup) without triggering this crazy mechanism?
Thanks,
T.
