I entered my product key incorrectly at installation and
now the MS update page wont allow me to obtain updates
because it thinks my software is pirated. Is there any
method of re-entering the product key without re-loading
windows?

Yes there is, goto the registry set your key value for the oobe>msoobe to
zero and reboot you"ll have to reenter your product key at start up, enter
the correct key and it will work (if you have avalid key off course)
Otherwise call Microsoft, and since you said your software is not pirated
they will help you !

That's odd when I enter the wrong key windows won't
even install. What are the chances you randomly entered
a pirated key?

You entered a wrong key?
Are you sure your Product Key is legitimate?
The odds of mistyping your key and happening to enter a working
invalid key are extremely low.

Greetings --

If you had mistyped the Product Key during installation, the
installation would not have continued. The odds against your randomly
mistyping a Product Key in such a manner that it would work are
astronomical.

If you are trying to install Service Pack 1a and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid

You need to purchase and use a _legitimate_ full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.

Remember, you should also report whomever sold/gave you the
pirated software to the pertinent law enforcement agencies; you've
been defrauded.
