Hello,

I have recently bought a copy of XP but i can't get the Activation wizard to
accept the product key. Is there a way i can check if the product key is
genuine?

Who did you buy this "copy of XP" from? Perhaps they are still using
the Product Key.

Also, please describe this product in as much detail as possible.

If the CD and key are legit, carefully check all the characters. Make
sure the letters are capitalized. Make sure you don't confuse Z with 2,
S with 5, etc.

If you can't activate over the Net, call the phone number on the screen.
The process is usually automated and should take no longer than five
minutes.

Bought where? OEM or Retail license? What is the wizard telling you when you
try to activate?

Bought from a reseller. The Activation Wizard keeps saying "Incorrect Product
Key, please check and try again". I've tried over the phone, after i've keyed
in the installation ID the phone says "There is a problem that may be solved
by changing the product key". This directs you to the Activation Wizard
again. When i enter the Product Key again it won't accept it and therefore
won't generate a new key.

I'm going to try a full reinstall tonight. The reseller swears that the key
is genuine and should work.

Please note that recently the Windows Product keys (XP, 2003, 2008,
Vista) seems to be using a "font" that can be mis-read:

O and 0 (zero) can appear the same

1 and l (lowercase L) can be confusing

B and 8 are almost the same.

Also, you need to make sure that all the "anti-counterfeit" "features"
of the XP is on your "product."

A reseller, really? I never would have guessed. Please answer the remainder
of my questions, OEM or Retail license?
Where do you find the product key your using, be descriptive.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. The reseller provided me with another key in the end
and admitted their mistake!

Cheers.
