I have purchased Windows XP Home for 5 computers in my
home/office. I was keeping track of which product key was
related to each computer. Unfortunately, I have lost my
information. I'm about to upgrade one of my computers
with a new Motherboard, cpu and memory. I intend to
format and do a new install of WinXP on the computer.

Of course, my problem is I need to know which product key
is related to that computer. How can I determine the
product key for that machine? Is it in the registry or
system information?

I thought Tweak XP displayed it but can't seem to find it
using that program.

Thanks for any help.

No need to download anything. Windows will easily show you this
information.

Start>Help and Support> type in "Health" (without the quotes), click on Get
information about your computer (left side); then click on View a list of
Microsoft software installed on this machine on the right hand side. this
will give you the numbers for all your MS products, including WinXP, Word,
Media Player, Plus! (if installed), etc.

Hello!
If the XP Cds are legal then you must inform Microsoft.They
will help you regarding alternative keys.It takes a few $
only.
It is in the system registry.

I don't think the PID is the same as the CD Key. I have MSO XP install and
the PID is not the same Key that I entered when I installed the software.

Hi Dave;

If the Windows XP's were retail versions, call Microsoft. They can match up
the PK's to the PID's in your system properties to show which PK goes with
which machine.

That is not the info the poster is looking for. A 3rd party app had via a Google search will get it.

As other's have pointed out, that won't give you the CD Key which is what he
is seeking.

Greetings --

Sorry, but that's of no use in this particular case. The Product
IDs revealed by this method cannot be used as substitutes for the
Product Keys required to perform an installation.
