Hi everyone, I had to reinstall windows xp- no problem. However, the computer
does no longer recognise my product key, even though it is the same computer
I am using. I have contacted Microsoft and my computer manufacturer, both
very un-helpful. I am verycannoyed about this, as my version of windows is
genuine. and if i cant sort it in 27 days it will become un-useable! Any
suggestions? Please???

It sounds like the computer did accept your product key. Xp is installed and
you have 27 days left. So is it activation you're talking about or is the
windows update turning you down? Is this an oem xp or retail?

If you were able to install Windows and it is running then your
Product Key is valid.

The 27 days left indicates that you are having an activation problem.

If your Windows XP came bundled with the new computer then the primary
suspect would be a hardware change in the computer itself,
specifically the motherboard.

Did you replace the computer motherboard with one from a different
manufacturer? That could cause the problem you are facing if your
Windows XP is a BIOS Locked (SLP) OEM version.

Another possibility would be if you updated the motherboard BIOS and
the update you used was not obtained from the computer manufacturer's
website.

If none of the above circumstances apply to your situation then please
post a response back here with some more specific details as to
exactly what happens when you try to activate your Windows XP over the
Internet, including the complete verbatim text of the error messages.
Also when you try to do a telephone activation, what exactly does the
Microsoft representative say about your particular situation?

Hope this is of some assistance.

Good luck

'Hi. The hardware of the computer has not changed, all I did was format the
hard drive then install xp again on it. It is an activation problem, when I
try to activate the product it says 'incorrect product key' and suggests that
I may have mistyped it (which i havent). It says message 45090. The same
happens over the phone, it simply says the code is not verified. The software
was pre-installed on my pc when I bought it until I had to reinstall. Is
their any hope of sorting this in 26 days or am I going to have to buy
another copy? Cheers.

Go to,
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326904
and see if your product key is any of the ones on the list. If it is then
you will have to buy a new copy or go talk to your computer maker and ask
them for a valid key.

for me - it sound that his trying to register the copy - simple whe
you register you need to type the code in the back of your computer
if its doesnt work its because you shared the code with another perso
trying to install xp

you may be asking - but why, when I instal the copy the key works?!!

yeap - but when you are registering its connecting to the internet an
its scan for the key if its correctly and when you are installing it
not in the interne

if you still with the problem - look for keys around the internet
and duhhhhh - its illega
