My sister PC was acting wierd ,icons vanishing etc... So
her son unstinalled & tried to reinstall this winxp from
the CD. then the CD drive fails.
I have installed a new CD-rom drive in her PC and now
trying to get Windows running again it install up to the
point where it asks for the CD= Product Key which i type
in exactly as it appears on the orange label om the
package. it come up with message error :number not valid.
What do I do now?
I called Microsoft Product support but they are closed
till monday morning.

If the CD is an OEM version - came with the computer - then you will need to
contact the computer vender not Microsoft about this issue.

Here are a couple of tips
1)Do not have the caps lock on when you enter letters and do not use the
Shift key. just enter the letters
2)Check the numbers and letters very closely sometimes a "B" looks like an
"8" and a "Y" looks like a "4", etc. The font style that is on the stickers
isn't the best style that MS could have chosen IMO
3)Have someone read the Product Key to you as you enter it or have someone
else try entering the code as you read it to them.

Greetings --

You need to examine the Product Key very carefully. It's awfully
easy to mistake a "B" for an "8," a "G" for a "6," an "S" for a "5,"
or a "Q" for a "0" or "O." Fortunately, Microsoft had the good sense
to leave the "1's," "I's," "O's," and "0's" out of the equation.
Also, be sure that your CapsLock if _off_ while entering the Product
Key.
