Here are three utilities which will display your product key:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
and: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
and RockXP: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4138.html which has additional
features

Note: Also check the side of your PC case or bottom of the laptop for the
OEM key code. If there is a sticker with the code it will most likely not
match what is displayed by the utilities mentioned above as OEMs such as
Dell use an internal
key code when they build your PC.

The key code on the sticker is for use with your Windows CD that hopefully
came with your PC.

If the installation is bootable use one of these tools to retrieve the key:

ViewXP http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/ViewKeyXP.exe
AIDA32 http://www.aumha.org/freeware.htm
Belarc Advisor http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Magical Jellybean http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

If it's not bootable but still on the drive:

http://www.product-key.com/keyfinders/keyfinderPlugin.htm

Well first I'm going to inform you that what you are referring to is a 25
character product key code compiled of 5 sets of 5 letters & numbers mixed
together. A product ID is 20 numbers (which will include the letters OEM
after the first 5 digits if your XP came installed on your PC from like
Dell/HP/Acer etc) which can be found in your system properties window after
installation of Win XP has completed. If you have a legitimate cd and it does
NOT say "for distribution with a new pc only" it should be a retail cd and so
if you call 1-800-936-5700 (MS consumer cust. service) they will provide you
with a new product key for a fee of $10.00 to a major credit card.

That is NOT the Product key used when installing XP.

Why bother when for a small free download the OP can find out the Product
Key with at least two different applications?

Well I mean if the product key retrievers work then great, you've saved yourself $10.00 but I was just providing another option to the original poster.
