I have a copy of Windows XP that was loaded on a Laptop
that has been sent the computer heaven. With the laptop
went the Product ID.

How do I go about getting a new Product ID?

Thanks,
Mike

Are you referring to the Product Key? The Product Key is what's
needed to install the OS. If the laptop had an OEM version of XP
loaded on it, when the laptop died, so did your OEM version of XP.
Lousy deal - I know, but that's how the OEM license is setup.

If you had an off the shelf copy of XP loaded on the laptop and lost
the Product Key, you may be able to get another key by calling MS
Customer Service.

Buy another copy. If the system on the laptop came installed on it, you
would have to do that anyway - those 'OEM' copies are only licensed for
the original machine. If it was a retail copy that you installed you
should have retained the Product key for transfer
