I'm trying to contact Microsoft online assisted support
but they need my product ID.
This is how they say you can find your product ID...
Your Product ID (PID) for windows xp home can be located
by taking the following steps: Click the "Start" button
and click "Help and Support". Click "Use Tools to view
your computer information and diagnose problems".
Click "My Computer Information". Click "View a list of
Microsoft Software installed on this computer".
Underneath "Product Identification (PID)", the number is
listed.
I can't do any of this because my computer won't start,
which is why I'm trying to contact them in the first place!
I accidently deleted some registry files and have found
out how to fix this from the recovery console but it's
asking for my administrators password, when I type in my
password it doesn't accept it.

Simon;
Can you login to Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Right click My Computer
Click Properties
The Product ID is the 20 character line under "Registered to"
If OEM is part of the Product ID, Microsoft will not assist since you
have OEM Windows XP.

Greetings --

The password being requested is that of the built-in Administrator
account, not the password for any other user accounts you may have
created. Unless you've deliberately set the Administrator's password
via the Management Console (_not_ the Control Panel), it's probably
still blank. WinXP Pro asks you to set the Administrator's password
during installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

Hi Simon,

Regarding your post, if you can't get into recovery console (Admin Password
issue) you can troubleshoot the issue in a number of other ways. You
ability to use these methods and potential for success will depend on which
specific files were deleted.

These first two methids are not likely to work if a number of registry
files were deleted, but you should give them a try anyway just in case:

Configuration

Here are two ways that are more likely to lead to a resolution, but both
presume that you have a Windows XP CD from which the OS was originally
installed and you can provide the CD Key which is on the jewel case:

What you can do with a Parallel Install:
- You can attempt to restore a previous version of the Registry <hives> in
the original OS
- You can access files in the original OS
