product compliance check

I'm trying to install Excel 2002 on my new laptop. I
bought it for my old computer and am told I can transfer
it to the new one. After downloading it asks for my name
and product key. I get the response: Product Compliance
Check. Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product
on your machine. Can anyone help?

Hi Kathy!

I think that this is because the package that you have is a upgrade
rather than a full priced version.

From this, it seems that you did have a previous version on your old
computer and as long as that isn't an OEM (Original Equipment
Manufacturer) version you should be able to load that one on the new
laptop and then load the Excel 2002. If you sell the old computer you
must remove the copy of the old Excel if you have transferred it to a
new computer.

Yes, you have an upgrade version of Excel. When it asks for a qualifying
product insert the Excel 97/Office 97 CD in the drive. If you still have
problems, call Microsoft support. Installation issues are a free call and
they'll get you a bypass key if you're a legitimate owner.
