In my set up menu, there are five (5) blocks to fill in to
insure the product is an authentic Microsoft one. On the
shrink wrap and paperwork in general I can only find
numbers with groups of four (4) max.

The sticker with the license number is on the side of the computer!

For your reference the set of numbers that I believe you are trying to find is known as th

Product Key: this consists of 5 sets of 5 Aplahabetic and Numeric values

This is found inside the wallet of the XP Upgrade Product and on a Sticker which you affix to the case of an OEM New Product or else it may already be firmly attached to the case of your PC. In the case of a laptop look underneath. For a Full XP retail it is also inside the box

Microsoft is not so stupid as to affix it to shrink wrap material

Hope this helps you in your search for information

Failing that take your newly purchased product back to the retailer and ask them to show you the Product Key or get a refund.
