Hi I am William. Windows XPSP2 keeps on asking me to activate Windows. How do
I get around this? I have 5 days to activate Windows. What happens after
this? Will I be able to log on to windows after 5 days? Will I be able to use
my computer?
I had windows XP home edition installed at the factory about 3 yrs ago. I do
not remember if i activated windows. reciently I had to restore the software
to the computer. Then I updated to SP2. now windows ask to activate the
product. I have tried to activate it 4 times already. It seems that the
product key is not correct, or its a pirateted copy. Pls Help.
regards Bill

Hi William,

A restore of a factory installation usually requires a phone call to
reactivate. Follow the prompts to get the right number for your location.

To answer your questions: Yes, you need to activate, and after the remaining
5 days are up you will only be able to boot to Safe mode until you do.
Likely you did not have to activate the installation when you first got the
system as this was accomplished at the factory (actually, the image the
installer used did not require activation).

If you Product Key is one you got from a reputable major OEM, then that
is an erroneous message, intended to fool you into buying a copy of
software you really don't need.
