Product Activation is Fubar

Installation: XP home, SP2 installed over top.

In trying to simplify a network issue, I disabled the cat5 network card, and
Lo,
I can no longer login until I re-activate.
Fair enough.
I recalled the first activation going smoothly.
But alas, the activation screen refused to continue.
I am shown 3 choices of methods of activation,
a button that displays a statement,
and a button marked NEXT.
I am supposed to read said statement, press BACK, then press NEXT.
Regrettably, at no time does either pressing BACK or NEXT or any combination
thereof, produce any results.
Both buttons can obtain the dotted outline, both buttons depress when
clicked, but Absolutely Nothing happens.

In safe mode, everything works except for network functionality.
It can't be a network issue, since selecting the telephone option also
produces...
Absolutely Nothing.
Just the same screen sitting there, pretending I didn't click a thing.
I can close the window no problem, but that just kicks me back to the login
screen.

Ran through all the knowledge base, but no solutions.

According to the SP2 documention, don't I get a short grace period before
being Forced to re-activate?
Being in the middle of hardware readjustment and tweaking, I found this
incredibly disruptive, particularly since the retarded thing won't even LET
me re-activate.

LOL. Go out buy a legit copy and the same thing will never happen again.

My apologies for not being more clear.

I Activated XP Home Edition the first time I installed it, with no problems.
I Installed SP2 a year ago and have been running just fine ever since.
I have made Extensive use of Windows Update.
As far as I know, all of these events are impossible with pirate software.

I did not encounter problems until I made hardware modifications which
required re-activation.
Unfortunately I become stuck at the activation screen,
I cannot even make an ATTEMPT to verify and re-activate.

(sigh)
The machine is still highly functional,
but maybe this is a sign I should upgrade.

You can always re-activate which is activating by phone. This always
works since it does not depend on hardware (eg working internet connection).

Sorry I didn' t read the whole thing. Now I did.

You may try a repair install und then try to reactivate.
