Sounds like (since you said "this is what it says on my bios") this is not a
Windows problem, but a problem with your hardware.

Get out your manuals for your motherboard(mainboard) and check into HOW to
set your CPU speed. =)

It looks like your running the FSB at 100 instead of 133.
That is selectable in the BIOS.
100 X 11.5 (the mulitplier) = 1150
133 X 11.5 = 1529.5 (Athlon 1800)

Hello

Look it up on the internet, you can find the spec's to your
mother and processor on the net

i looked it up and it said that it is meant to be 1533 at 266 fs
and there is no option in the bios so there must be a hardware jumper on the motherboar
but i dont know what that looks like

The Bel Arc Advisor www.belarc.com is a free download which
will identify the make/model and serial number of your
motherboard. It does other things too.

Even more powerful is AIDA32 (Google for URL)

Once you download and run these programs, you will know
where to look for a mobo manual.

Thanks for this Fitz. I had the same problem as Alan - my 2600+ Athlon,
which should run at 1917MHz was only running at 1.15GHz and I could not find
anything in the documentation which came with the CPU which even mentions
that I should have set the motherboard's BUS clock to 166MHz. I manually set
the switches to 166MHz rather than the 100MHz default and, viola! The CPU is
now running at 1.9GHz! Seems simple when you know but it would help if
Athlon would tell you this.

It is the motherboard documentation that should take you through the steps
of setting your BIOS. Athlon did their job- the processor speed, BUS speed,
L1 and L2 cache, etc are included in the advertising and documentation.

Some motherboards will auto-detect and invoke the appropriate settings,
others have to be done manually. Most will load "fail safe defaults" after
build and initial startup and some will set the appropriate speed if you
select "load optimized settings" in the BIOS.

Anyway, glad you got it working...

Well that's part of the problem - Athlon have not done their job. Nowhere in
any of the information provided with my CPU, or on the box it comes in, does
it tell me the BUS speed. AMD's website is not much help either. It was only
after checking the newsgroups I found the answer, and I found that I'm not
alone in having this problem.

All the info you need is on the processor itself, and usually on the
package.
Try here:
http://139.95.253.214/SRVS/CGI-BIN/...2982285,K=722,Sxi=15,Case=obj(1224)#OPN_guide
And here's a cut and paste from the site:
The operating specifications of an AMD AthlonT XP processor can be
determined by the processor's Ordering Part Number (OPN), which is located
on the processor. Valid OPN examples for AMD Athlon XP processors are
included below, as well as a brief chart that details how to read an OPN.
For additional information on current OPN details, see the chapter entitled
"Ordering Information" in the processor's data sheet, which can be
downloaded from the Technical Documents page for the AMD Athlon XP
Processor.

As I've said, I have now fixed the problem - I was merely now complaining
that Athlon should have stated somewhere in the material which came with my
CPU, what it's BUS speed was.

Normally the mainboard maker will have this information either on the manual
or if it older manual, then it will have update from their site.
