processes

When I bought my new computer, it had about 5 or 6
processes running on it after boot. After about 6 months
of home use, it has 30 or more processes running after
boot. Where do these all come from? Are they malicious,
or should they be running? How do I stop them and remove
them from my computer if they are not installed and
running from my own software? How do I know which ones
are safe and which ones could hurt me?

You could feed an Internet search engine for the name of a process to
find out more.
