I'm trying to identify the cause of why I can't always shutdown windows, or
sometimes logoff a particular user.
I have Windows XP SP2 with all the latest patches driver updates etc. etc.
I have the PC setup for 3 users, A, B and C.
I usually start the PC as A, but then later logoff A to log on as user C, or
sometimes as B.
When logged on as C, with A logged off, if I go into Windows Task Manager
there are processes still running as user A (namely drwtsn32.exe &
CTHELPER.EXE). These cannot be ended.
Is there a way of determining how a process will be allocated? What I mean
is whether is runs under user A or as System/Local ??
I would like to eliminate this oddity from my investigations as a cuase of
why the system sometimes will not shutdown correctly.
As an aside.... If I first log on as A, then logoff and log on as B.
Sometimes I can't logoff B. Just 'hangs' at the desktop.

[[cthelper.exe is installed with Creative Labs Soundblaster Devices. It's
purpose is to aid 3rd party developers create plugins/software for the card.
In this way it is a non-essential system process and can be removed from the
task-bar/startup. ]]

Disable cthelper.exe. It's probably what's causing Dr. Watson to run.
drwtsn32.exe = DrWatson Postmortem Debugger

Look in the Event Viewer to see what's causing Dr. Watson to run.

To open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | Click OK

For any Events that seem related to the problem...

Double click the event in Event Viewer | Click: the button below the second
arrow (looks like two pages) [[Copies the details of the event to the
Clipboard.]] | Paste into Notepad | Also click on:

This can also be very useful.
You need to have the Event ID & the Event Source.

To view Windows XP Events and Errors, type the Source (for example, Print)
and/or the Event code (for example, 20) into the ID field, then click the Go
button. Source and Event codes may be found in the Event Viewer logs.

Event ID & the Event Source are very important.

I have removed CTHELPER from the registry.
It took a while to find it.
The system is now more stable when swapping from one user to another.
Thankyou for your help
