Problems!

(Computer currently equipped with a 915G Motherboard.)
I am currently running with Windows XP Pro with SP2 install. Whenever I run
Winguide's Registry Mechanic 4 (Full Registry Scan) or Perfect Disk 6
(Boot-time Defrag), the CPU instantly jumps to maximum performance. (CPU -
Pentium 4 - 3.0Ghz, capable of overclocking to 3.6Ghz) The computer still
responds to my commands, but those tasks could never be done. Can anyone help
me fix this? Thanks in advance.
(P.S - Norton Internet Security (O.E.M.) was previously installed,
uninstalled (System Restore) it cause it caused computer to freeze. Could
this be the problem?)

If you are suggesting that your system CPU utilisation goes close to 100%,
then it is to be expected.

These two typesd of application will be CPU intensive, causing files to be
read, compared, massaged, rewritten and whatever. Yep: this takes a lot of
processing.

If your system restore point was properly recovered, then all traces of
Norton are gone by resetting to an earlier time.

No... that's not what I meant... What I mean was by engaging in these two
operations, they can never be completed, and the CPU utilisation goes to
100%. (The operations get stuck in one place.)
