Problems with Desktop

I have created many images using XP Embedded but the problem I seem to be
having it the desktop when installation is complete. First the desktop is
not a typical XP desktop and the menu is placed in a Window by itself with
very few features. I've select settings from the USER INTERFACE CORE and
selected the icon I want to appear and so on. I've done this so many times
now and still get the same result, the blue XP background with the task bar
at the bottom with no icons and a menu that appear at the top left only when
you press the MENU(windows) key on the keyboard. Any ideas what I'm doing
wrong?

Here's my steps.

1.. Run TAP.exe on XP pro, same hardware.
2.. Import PMQ in to component Designer (save)
3.. import SLD file in to Component Database Manager
4.. Run Target Designer and add Component from Component Designer
5.. Add Design Template "Advanced Set Top Box:"
6.. Check dependency's fix any
7.. build
8.. Place on target let it build. Same desktop appears.

Thanks

I'd first check if "Show Desktop Icons" item is checked for "User Interface Core" component in your image.
Just in case, check the registry value on target:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced],"HideIcons" dword value should be set to 0.

If you still don't see icons on desktop, you may want to play with the following registry:

My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places and Internet Explorer icons:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]
"{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}"=dword:00000000
"{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000
"{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

(if you set dwords to 1 you'll hide the icons).
