I am using Norton Firewall 2003 and when windows xp pro loads it comes up
with a red shield that says Problem with your firewall.

My norton x's out and i cannot run it

I went into Windows Security Center and made sure it is checked "I have a
firewall solution that I''ll monitor myself"

I also unchecked use windows firewall on the main secoion but everytime I
restart the computer it keeps rechecking it and then my firewall stops
working

How do I fix this?

those do not answer the question
I installed the patch that norton suggested

What is happening is the xp firewall keeps enabling itself instead of
holding the checks and unchecks i put in

I need it to stop enabling itself and allow the norton firewall 2003 to open
up

robin

Go to Start > Run and type: ncpa.cpl , and hit enter.
Right-click on your network connection icon and select:
Properties > Advanced > Windows Firewall Settings and
under the General tab, place a dot next to "Off", then click
OK and OK once again.

did that already
I just checked it again to see if it is on OFF and it is
also i noticed that stupid red shield came up again after i had unchecked in
Resources and unchecked firewall

btw i called norton and they are cluless- seems from further research i am
seeing that this only effects norton firewall 2003 not 2004- go figure

They also told me to make sure i had all the processors running (except
Password) to automatic- the network one was set to manual so i put it to
automatic and for some crazy reason it is now loading fine but now i am
still seeing the firewall red shield telling me i am not protected.

I guess i will live with the problem till my software definitions expire and
go to 2005 since it comes out in oct unless someone comes up with a fix.

thanks for the info

robin

and i just checked around to other newsgroups and ppl who are using other
firewall software other than norton are having the same problem
sp2 firewall when unchecked keeps rechecking itself back after a reboot

seems it has a bug
