problems with word as my outlook editor failing to load

When I hit reply to an email in Outlook 2003 and it has Ariel as the font, my
normal Word editor pops up an error message and dumps me into Outlook's
editor. This does not happen with other fonts. This just started happending
and I've got all the latest updates. Even if I switch back to Word as my
editor, it still switches back when I hit reply to these emails.

The message says Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is
unavailable, not installed or is not the same version as Outlook. The
outlook email editor will be used instead. This seems to only happen when I
click on an email written in Ariel font. When I switch back to Word as my
editor and then reboot the problem goes away until I hit a certain message
and then it comes up again. It may be related to a corrupted message but I
has happened with more than one message.
