Problems with Word 2003

Why does the screen bounce up and down when I type in Word? I am using a
brand new HP Presario notebook and this problem is highly irritating. On
occasion I briefly see a tiny "scroll up/down" symbol where the blinking
cursor should be. It disappears as soon as it appears.

This sounds as if you may be hitting a touchpad or some other pointer
device that's set to scroll (as opposed to select) while typing. The icon
you describe appears to resemble the one I get if I press the "scroll"
button on my mouse; moving the mouse then scrolls the screen (instead of
needing to use a scroll button or a scroll bar).
