Problems with Shutting Down

Ever since i downloaded the new update i get problems on my computer
first it screwed up my profile so i had to make another
and it ruined my shutting down button. now everytime i click shutting down
instead of closing the computer it restarts it as if i clicked my restart
button.
now the only way i can close the computer is manually, but that screws the
computer so i don't know what to do
does anyone else have problems with the last update?

thanks

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Try doing a system restore to before you did the updates.

If system restore didn't fix the problem, you may have to do a repair
install which will remove all the updates you have done after your
version of XP, so you will need to re apply them.
Before doing that though I suggest you take a look here

http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

Also, backup all important files before doing the repair install, just
in case......
