I've got machine running Windows XP SP2 with latest updates hosting several
directories which are shared.

Some of them have 'read' sharing permission for everyone (filesystem
permisssion is identical with sharing permissions).

Some of them have read sharing permission for local user (local user is on
Windows XP SP2 computer).

I need accessing those directories from Windows 2003 Server Standard Ed SP1
with latest updates.

Sometimes I get no problems, sometimes I get window with username/password
field for dir shared for everyone.

Today I restarted Windows 2003 and all mapped network drives are
disconnected and cannot them mounted. Still username/password windows is
popping up.

First, I guess I don't understand why you're trying to access shared folders
or map drives on a *client* from the *server,* rather than the other way
around.... ?

That said, are you using Active Directory? Whom are you logging in as, on
the server? Is the guest account enabled on the client? If you provide the
credentials when prompted (computername\username) does it work?
