Problems with Service Pack 4 Install

K

KB

I tried to install SP4 on a Windows 2000 Professional
machine that was running SP2. In the middle of the install
Service Pack restarted the computer automatically (It was
a remote install so not sure at what exact point, but
before clicking the finish button)
Now when I try to load windows it gets to the point where
it shows the prograss while loading windows ( The status
bar runs all the way accross to show that the part has
finished) and then my computer reboots again.
Not sure what is causing it, but my guess is SP4. Please
let me know if any of you had encounterd the same issue,
or how to uninstall the service pack if I can get into
safe mode.
Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I am having the same problem as KB. I purchased Win2000
Pro to update from Win98. When I went to update my
windows, SP4 would not install properly & keeps
rebooting. Now, the computer just keeps rebooting
itself. I tried to go into safe mode, safe mode with
networking, etc., etc., with no luck. It just keeps
rebooting!!! How do I get my windows back???? I tried
the knowledge base, with no luck......

I am having the same problem. After the "automatic"
install, my machine just keeps re-booting.

What is the fix?????

I am having the same problem, exactly tis, with a Dell
Latitude CPx H500GT laptop...

and it wont load in SAFE mode, my next step will be an old
fashioned dos 6.22 boot disk, and copy over the atapi.sys
file from the Win2K CD, to the WinNT/system32/drivers
folder.

That worked to fix the big blue screen of death STOP Error
on a diferent PC.

anyway, I am sure y'all have heard of Dell's marvelous
support services, especially for a second hand owner...

if you hear of anythng, I would appreciate an email at

My guess is a hidden partition with that special software
vendors LOVE to install, so they can issue a 'format and
reload' as their magic 'fix' for your problems.

thanks
