Problems with my Windows XP Pro Installation

Just recently I installed Windows XP Professional. At least I believe I did.
The computer would do fine until it go to the "Please Wait" screen and then
it didn't do anything (after what I call substantial waiting). The Help and
Support still says Windows XP Home Edition, my the proerties under My
Computer say I have XP Pro with SP2 installed (and I now have a XP Pro
screensaver).

Which brings me to my problem. Since upgrading, a number of things are not
working. Namely: the screensaver, the shutdown feature (I have to use the
button on my PC now), and the standy feature. The standy will work if I put
the lid on my laptop down...but it won't if I just leave it alone, even
though it is supposed to standby after 30 minutes.

Does anyway have any suggestions?

Actually thier is no xp pro upgrade from xp home. The "upgrade" is for former
windows os-98,95,ME,etc.Microsoft specifically says if one wants to go from
xp home to xp pro,a new clean installation of pro is required.

Andrew, that's completely untrue.

To the OP:

It sounds like something went wrong with the upgrade, or that it was done on
a system that already had some problems. In particular, if you're not
completely free of viruses and spyware, XP upgrades can be problematic.

You may also need to reinstall drivers. Normally, that's not needed with an
upgrade from Home to Pro, but sometimes things get lost in the shuffle,
particularly when you're doing an upgrade from a proprietary oem version.
Update you chipset (motherboard) drivers first to see if that makes a
difference. It wouldn't hurt to reinstall/update your video driver and
others as well.

You can also try doing a repair install of Pro and see if that sorts things
out. There's plenty of information on doing a repair install: just Google
for it or search any of these groups and you'll find more than you need.

Andrew,

That is incorrect.
One can easily *upgrade* from Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP
Professional Edition.

There is no place Microsoft says anything about a clean install being
required to go from Home Edition to Professional Edition. If going the
other direction - yes - a clean install is required to remove the extra
features included in Windows XP Professional Edition.

Bullshit.

Would you please stop peddling your lies on these newsgroups.
