problems with keyboard and mouse

I have a secondhand computer wich seemed to work ok, but after I changed the
networkcard I got a huge problem. The computer itself(the software anyway)
seems to work witout any problems. But I can hardly do anything because the
mouse and keyboard do not work as they should. It is all very slow and the
computer starts to "beep" when I touch a key to often on the keyboard. Once
every 2 seconds it can handle but when more it starts beeping. Same with the
mouse, it takes me almost ten minutes to just get the mousepointer from the
middle of the screen to the bottom, if at all. As I said before, the software
seems to work just fine, so I am puzzled!! I checked everything I could think
of, but can't find anything wrong, there are no conflicts or warnings from XP
what so ever.......
I changed the computer back to its original state but that didn't seem to
help either.

Is there anyone out there who can explain this problem to me, or even better
help me with this?

It sounds like you may have damaged some of the hardware when you
installed the network card. Or there was a reason the original owner of
the second-hand computer got rid of it. Try a different keyboard and
mouse. If a different ps/2 keyboard/mouse causes the same issue, then
the connectors on the motherboard is damaged. Try a usb keyboard/mouse.

Your Network Card can my also conflict with other devices. Try removing your
Network Card safely and then use your Mouse and Keyboard. See, if this solve
your problem.
