I just bought an HP workstation with the amd opteron processors (2 of them)
and with win xp pro 64 bit OS installed. I am haveing problems installing 32
bit programs. Some install just fine and others won't even start the
installer. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, the microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general newsgroup and
http://www.planetamd64.com

OR

If this 64-bit stuff is just an uncomfortable hassel for you, switch to a
32-bit version of Windows which is a much better supported platform and on
which you will not be considered an "early adopter".

I went with the 64 bit because I need the best system I could afford to run
our 3d CAD software! but I also NEED 2 other apps that will not install..
One is AutoCad 2000

How, I can not seem to. the drop down menu in the ask question area does not
list that area and i can not seem to get there.

Some ideas:

Is the new 3d CAD program a 32 or 64 bit program? In other words, does it
need Windows 64 or can you run it on regular Windows?

If the new 3d CAD program is 32-bits, just use Windows XP Pro 32 and forget
Windows XP Pro 64 for the time being.

If the new 3d CAD program is 64-bits, you may be looking at setting up a
dualboot on the computer. Boot to Windows64 for to run the new 3d CAD
program and reboot to Windows32 for to run the other CAD programs. Create
and use separate partitions on the harddrive for each Windows installation
OR run two computers, one with Windows 64 and the other with Windows 32.
Get highspeed 1000 network cards and link 'em so you can share files fast.

But post your question again in microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general and
register at the planetamd64.com forums .. be sure to say whether the new 3d
CAD program is itself 32 or 64 bit program.
