Problems with HORM (Hibernate Once / Resume Many) configuration

Guest

I try to setup a HORM configuration with EWF in RAM Reg Mode, but during the
configuration i discovered the following problems:

1. EWF RAM Reg with more than one partition
I use a 1GB CF with partition C: 900MB and partition D: with 100MB. But the
ewf is only active on partition C:. How can i configure EWF in RAM Reg mode
to protect more than one partition?

2. Which component(s) do i need to get the Power manager utility xpepm for
the command line?

3. After resuming the device there comes always the login screen and the
password is needed in order to get to the desktop. When i start normally the
automatic logon works properly. How can i avoid the login screen after
resuming. Since my device has no keyboard i need the autologon function
working.

4. When i store data on the unprotected partition D: this data is gone after
resuming. Why? It should be stored there phisically.

Does anybody know a solution for this problems?

Best regards

1. The EWF Setup UI has an option to set the number of protected volums. For
each protect vokume, you must set the ARC path - Disk # and partition #
2. Power Management Application is the component for XPePM.exe
3. You could use the MinLogon component instead of Windows Logon Standard.
If you are using Explorer Shell, you can only use Windows Logon Standard,
thus autologon component is required.
4. Unprotect D?, but in #1 it sounds like you want it protected- ????

Are you using FP2007? If so, the new EWF component there allows you to set up multiple partition protection painlessly.

If just SP2: You will have to add some registry entries manually to your config. Please read the docs here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ms940864.aspx

Note: FP2007 doecumention doesn't seem to reflect the fact that new EWF component there takes care of the registry setup and you
don't have to do that manually.

2. Which component(s) do i need to get the Power manager utility xpepm for
the command line?

"Use the filters, Luke!" :)

"Power Management Application" component.
3. After resuming the device there comes always the login screen and the
password is needed in order to get to the desktop. When i start normally the

You are probably referring here to the "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby" advanced option of POwer control
panel applet, right?
baside the fact that you can clear up the checkbox using Power CPL GUI, you can also use powercfg.exe tool ("Power Configuration
Tool" component). The follwoing command line, that you can easy run at FBA as FBA Generic Command, will do that:
powercfg.exe /GLOBALPOWERFLAG OFF /OPTION RESUMEPASSWORD

Another way is to set up power policies and grab the registry and add them to your pre-FBA config. You can set up the policies on XP
Pro or even your own XP e image at run time and then copy ACPolicy and DcPolicy keys.
A copuple more threads where I mentioned various related keys:

4. When i store data on the unprotected partition D: this data is gone after

Are you sure you are only protecting disk C (first partition) now?
Can you show us the output of ewfmgr and ewfmgr d: commands from your target device?
Also, did you unmount drive d: right before you captured the HORM'ed image?

If you are with FP2007, then the process is clearer there.

You refer to FP2007. According to your answers things might be going easier
when using FP2007. But after searching quite a while, where can i get FP2007?
Is there a download available?

M. Fernahl,

Yes, indeed :)
FP2007 has nice improvements in EWF/FBWF areas, USB2.0, dependecy chain&image footprint and the toolkit stability (to mention just a
few).
But after searching quite a while, where can i get FP2007?

Soryy, I should've mentioned FP2007 stands for Feature Pack 2007.
Here is the link to Eval version: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=5705014

If you are interested in non-Eval version you should contact your XPe distibutor or directly download it from OEM Secure web site
(https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com).
