Problems with empty Address Books

I use Outlook 2003 on a business latop which is connected to en exchange
server. So, when I create a new email and click on the 'TO' button I would
expect to get a choice of two address books, the Global Adress List and my
private contacts.

However, on clicking the 'TO' button in an empty email I get first of all an
entry called Outlook Adress Book which is empty. Below that I get my private
contacts and then the Global Address List.

How do I get rid of that first entry Outlook Address Book or turn it into
something useful?

You can't and don't want to get rid of it. In the Address Book window,
click Tools>Options. In the "Show this address list first" drop-down, put
either the Global Address List or your Contacts folder, whichever you want
to appear first. In the "When sending mail" section, order the GAL and
Contacts folders in the order you want Outlook to use to resolve names.
