Problems with Disk Check

C

czeng

When I start my computer (emachines), it goes into check
disk mode. The blue screen comes up with the
message "One of your disks needs to be checked for
consistency". While checking the disk, it says "an
unspecified error occured", then it seems to stop
checking the disk. My computer seems to be running fine,
except that now I cannot run a disk check or defrag.
When I try, I get the message "The disk check could not
be performed because the disk check utility needs
exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk.
These files can be accessed only by restarting Windows.
Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next
time you restart the computer?". If I answer yes, and
restart my computer I get the blue screen with the same
message. If I try to defrag, I get the message "Check
disk is scheduled to run on C, please run chkdsk/f. I
keep going back and forth with the same messages and not
getting anywhere. Could someone please explain to me how
I might resolve this problem? I would really appreciate
any help. Thank you.

First try it from safemode, if that doesn't work try it from
the recovery console.
use Chkdsk c: /r
