Problems with D-Link DI-524 router

I recently bought a D-Link DI 524 router that came packed with a
notebook wireless card. Ever since I bought it I've been having some
problems.

First of all, I noticed that I constantly lost connectivity... even
when I wasn't too far away from the router, I would be connected, then
5 minutes later, I couldn't ping any site. What would cause this?

My other problem is that we recently moved to a new house. We had a
company come out and wire the house for us. They supplied us with a
D-Link DI-604 router, which connects directly to the cable modem, which
connects the ports we have in the walls. The problem is, I want to use
my wireless router in conjunction with this. So now, that would
require to go through 2 routers. At first, it seemed to work fine...
but after a couple of hours, I got the same problem as before (when I
only had the one wireless router) -- connectivity, then lose it all of
a sudden. What's strange is that the signal is still reported as
"Excellent" or "very good". So I'm thinking it's a problem with the
router/card itself, not the fact that there is two routers.

So I called DLink tech support, and he had me do some configuration
changes to the main router (the one hooked up to the cable modem). He
had me set the Mtu to 1452 (what ever that means). He also had me
reset the Wan speed to 10Mbps.

Then, on my wireless router, he had me disable DHCP. Well, now I can't
get out to the internet at all, whereas before I could, but performance
(as I said) was unsatisfactory.

So....... how can I solve this problem? Do I need to make my wireless
router act as a hub, if possible? Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

I think you want to use the wireless router as an access port on your
existing network.

1. Disaple DHCP and DHCP server in router.
2. Manually assign an IP address compatable with existing LAN router.
3. Plug in to LAN through LAN port, do not connect ot WAN port.

Many people are having trouble with the 1.05 firmware and have gone back to
1.03 version due to intermittant loss of connection to network.
