Problems with compression of folders - Please, Help!!

This is my first time trying to compress files. I have some video files I
would like to compress to send by e-mail.

When I send one of my video files to the compressed (zipped) folder, the
compression is very low, for instance: normal size of video file 8.87 MB and
after sending it to compressed file 8.54 MB. Am I doing it wrong?

Until today I had a trial version of Winrar installed which I only used to
extract some files. I just downloaded and tried to compressed the video file
with the Windows option by sending the video file to the compressed (zipped)
folder. What am I doing wrong?

Please help!!!
Thank you

i believe that most video files are like jpeg & mp3 files, they are
compressed a great deal already, you will find it hard to compress them
anymore, you can find free program on the net called something like SPLITTER
that will split the file into smaller pieces and allow you to send them via
e-mail, but at the same time if the person has not got enough space in their
inbox then your file will be refused, i wouldnt recommend sending any file
bigger than 1.5Mb via e-mail.

p.s it sounds like you are doing everything right......

Thank you Pete for your quick reply. Sorry I have been unable to check for
answers before. I thought I had activated the "notify me of replies" box but
apparently I had not.
I thought that you could compress much more these files. Sometimes I get
some videos (an add or something else), to watch in Windows Media Player.
They arrive very reduced and the length of the video is similar to the ones I
am trying to compress. There must be some way to do it. I suppose I would
need to get special software.
I downloaded "winzip" trial version and used the option "compress and mail"
and mailed to another of my e-mail addresses to check. This was done a few
days ago and I am still waiting for this e-mail to arrive. It was not
returned either.

I will follow your advice and will forget about sending these videos by
e-mail.
Thank you for your advice.
