Problems with Catalyst 6.5 and MMC 9.14

In a last ditch attempt to see if the recently released Catalyst 6.5
and MMC 9.14 would solve ongoing problems with my AIW 9600XT on Windows
XP Pro on a PC with AMD 2400+, lotsa memory and free space, and fast
drives.

As with all versions, some things are fixed, most are not, and new
things are broken. And as always, after first sending me the same FAQ
as a response, the next response is useless because the tech did not
read carefully and misunderstood the problems. So I am going to sell
this thing and buy a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2.

Here is what I have found so far:

- the TV app hangs after some number of hours. Hangs so bad that even
Task Manager can't kill it, only a shutdown will.

- when recording (even using a low resolution format such as Video CD),
the TV display cannot keep up after about 1/2 hour

- when i am scheduling a program to record and select the s-video input
connector, the scheduler forgets that i chose s-video

- when i restart the TV, it shows that it is on the s-video connector
but it's not. i have to manually cycle through the input connectors
until i get back to the s-video connector

- if i have a tv set on in the other room on the same channel, there is
a 1 second or so delay on the ati (both video and sound). this never
used to be the case, and even when i go back to older versions of
catalyst and mmc, i still get this. so maybe one of the windows updates
is the culprit on this one

I would the same problems as you.

The ATI AIW 9000 and up has the same problem with : ATI TV Player hangs
after hours of use, forcing me to turn off the computer power switch and
reboot, You can not disable the VOD in the ATI TV Player, it always running,
All ATI AIW 9000 and up have the 1-2 second delay in the ATI TV Player.

After having multi problems with ATI AIW cards, I kissed them goodbye and
never to buy ATI AIW cards again. There too over priced to have many
problems. I don't need crap in my computer that doesn't work half the time.
And ATI Tech support sucks.

I've bought NVIDA (VIDEO CARD) and HAUPPAUGE (TV TUNER). With these two
cards installed I've had "NO" single problem what so ever. Smooth and easy
installation with the ease of use, Great products I've ever bought. "BRAVO!!
NVIDA and HAUPPAUGE"

Also, tried to sell my new to old ATI AIW products, nobody want to buy them
because there crap! At least thats what the people say.

Hmmm......dunno about the 9.14, but with the 9.13 and the cat 6.5's, I
managed to run MMC for 4 days non-stop, with my AIW 9800pro....without a
re-boot.

Dunno if it would have gone for 5 days, but there's only so much tele you
can watch !

MMC 9.13 would freeze up after a while with the Cat 6.4's....

'Realism is seductive because once you have accepted the reasonable notion
that you should base your actions on reality, you are too often led to
accept, without much questioning, someone else's version of what that
reality is. It is a crucial act of independent thinking to be skeptical of
someone else's description of reality.'-

I am envious that you have a working combination. I would love for this
to work. Unfortunately, after spending many, many hours
uninstalling/reinstalling/researching/reporting and still so many
issues, I have to move on.

BTW, great quote about someone else's reality. And I love your sigline!

The ATI web-page gives the impression that that Catalyst 6.5 is the
recommended driver set for AIW Radeon 8500 DV Cards. I have tried but I
get a frozen screen. If this is true, is MMC 9.14 included in the
package or have I to download it separately? If so, from where. There
is not mention of it as a separate download on the same page.

Don't go the Radeon page, go to the All-In-Wonder page.
Catalyst 6.6 and MMC 91.4 are both listed.

Catalyst 6.6 is not for AIW Radeon 8500 DV card, according to the notes
with Catalyst 6.6.
