problems with a . filemov

Hello,

I have a .mov file I downloaded, but it won't play. I understand it is a
quicktime format. I downloaded the 'Quicktime alternative' program from the
web which uses 'Media Player Classic' , but it still won't play. It
sometimes prompts me to connect to the internet so it can look for new
codecs, but fails to find one. I have windows xp. Is the file corrupt? or do
I need the original quicktime ?

What is a codec, how does it differ from a program ?

Thanks

K

CODEC = Compression/Decompression

The original file has been compressed with software. You need the same
software to decompress it before you can see and hear it.

You will only know if the file is corrupt by downloading and installing
Quicktime and asking it to play the file. If it plays it, it's not
corrupted. If it won't, it well might be.
