dvd playback

My windows xp will not play dvd's in either media centre, or quicktime or
anything else. It tells me that a codec is missing but I am at a loss to find
where it is in order to reinstall it--I had a bad wipe-out some time ago!! I
would appreciate help here.

The free VLC Media Player might be worth a try:

VLC Media Player

Or you could try downloading and installing a MPEG-2 codec.
