Problems with a 3.1GB MPEG2 file

Hi,

I have a dual-boot system running on FAT32 (XPpro and Win98se).

I burned a 3.1gb MPEG2 file to disc that I couldn't play now in XP
using my Pioneer DVD-Rom,although no problems with same DVD under
98SE. My pc hangs sometimes when I try to use My Computer to view the
DVD-Rom with that disc in it.

I read in forums about 2gb limitation on AVI files. I also read that
FAT32 won't allow files bigger than 2gb (I think it must be 4gb, or?).
Is there any file size limitation for MPEG2 files?

Why don't I get read problems or lock-ups under Win98SE when there is
a file size limitation for MPEG files as well?

Same version of Intel chipset driver(875p)installed. I'm using WMP 7.1
in 98se and WMP 8 in XPpro.

Thanks for all suggestions in advance.

If you look at the file structure on a commercial movie DVD,
you'll see a long list of smaller files, they are just
seamlessly merged during playback. If you make a single
huge file, you can expect problems.

The exact sizes and procedures will vary, it is a software
issue, why not look for the answer on a MPEG or Media Player
newsgroup. Google for "burning mpeg2" and you can get
started with refining your search.

I didn't burn it as DVD because I wasn't able to get the video in sync
using Pinnacle Studio. So I decided to burn/had to burn it as MPEG2
which was already in sync.

Thanks for recommendations. But I couldn't find the answer that way. I
think, the problem must be something specific for XP because no problem
under 98SE.

I solved the read problem with huge single files by selecting PIO Mode
for my Pioneer DVD-Rom (DVD-120). My Plextor DVD-Writer (PX-712A) was
also running in PIO Mode. Both devices are running in Ultra DMA Mode 2
under Win98SE.

I don't understand that. Is there something wrong with IDE Busmaster
drivers in XP? I think, it couldn't be IDE cable.

Still waiting for advices.
