Problems with 9700 Pro and Splinter Cell

I have had this card since it came out and have loved every minute of
it. I recently started playing Splinter Cell and had no problems with
the game when leaving everything to program preference. For a lark I
turned on 4xAA and 4XAF and the visual effects were stunning. One
really nice thing is that I could see in the dark without the night
vision goggles :)
Now for the problems. In the first mission the fires seem to appear
everywhere making it hard to see where the safe corridors are. Also if
I turn on the night vision the game crawls. Also during game play there
are two rainbow colored bands around the right and bottom border.
They are not there in the menus.
I am running the card with Cat 3.7s as till now I had no problems with
the card. My computer is a Pentium 4 2.0A running at 2.16 GHz with 512
MB RDRAM. I am running Windows XP Pro with all the latest fixes.

A search on google would have told you that SC is not compatible with
FSAA.

I think I remember seeing something about this but was hoping that there
was a work around. The scenery seems to be much better with it on. Oh
well it was an experiment that does not currently work as desired.

I have used FSAA successfully with Splinter Cell with the earlier
Catalyst drivers (without seeing the bleed-thru that you mention), and it
did indeed vastly improve the visuals. However the later Catalysts appear
to have broken it for good, so just deal with it and move on is the moral of
the story I guess.
