Problems with 7.2

D

Danny G.

I downloaded the 7.2 file from HIS and only ran the driver install pgm on top of the drivers that came with the ATI site's 7.2.

"on top" cough, cough... good luck with that.

There has been a noticeable improvement in my graphics. Hopefully there will
be no issues. I'll post a followup if things change.

Bad install or possibly the file you D/L is corrupt. I see .MSI
installer
files in ATI Support folder for these. I searched for the files
without the
path or extender. You may need to clean before reinstalling.

I did a 'clean' install. Or at least followed ATI's

Same
issue. Seems

You have the latest dot net installed, 3.0?

Bill

Yes... 1.1, 2, 3, VS2005 for debuging and development. And a handy

for
viewing the actual contents of the MSI tables...
<snip>

Well sorry I can't be of more help. Only thing I can think of is to
try removing then re-installing .Dot Net 3.0, DirectX, then the
drivers
in that order as Administrator in safe mode and not a power user, if
you hadn't already. I recall Corel X3 would seem to install but not
work when installed < for me anyway > as a power user but worked when
installed as Administrator.

I'd seen where others were having problems and had fixed their's by
installing .Dot Net 3.0.

I dual boot with Linux and ATI was such a pita to get running that I
went to a Nvidia card. The latest ATI I've got is a X800PRO with
older
drivers that let you use the old style control panel.

I think ATI made a big mistake using dot net to run their new
control
panel. Hope you figure it out.

Bill

As near as I can tell no amount of reinstalling or cleaning or
anything
else
will fix references in the code to files that don't exist or are not
included in
the installation. It looks very much like someone at ati botched the
build
for
this version. Keep in mind IT DOES RUN... but I'm not going to
tolerate
my
event
logs getting loaded with crap from the nonessential (skins and all
that
crap)
junk failing to run. I have sent off a detailed note to ATI_ I don't
expect they
will do anything until the note is translated.

Please post the "exact" file-name of the ATI driver install package, as
well
as an md5sum of the binary. I'll then compare this to my working
(verified
by having a 7.2 w/ CCC install working just fine for me since 02/22/07
when
I first installed them) set of Cat 7.2 files.

Something is obviously "off" here since the Cat 7.2 release has been
out
since 02/21/07 and this is the first I've heard of your particular
issue.

Tony

Sure.. Here ya go!!

[Path] / filename MD5 sum
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238.exe

Hmmm...

*7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238.exe 7d0d4ac03680079df70b7d8fc126b305

Looks like your file is a binary match to the file I downloaded 2/22/07
and
have been using successfully ever since.

Only think I can suggest it uninstalling, then running Driver Cleaner Pro
on
all ATI software while in safe mode, reboot, reinstall. If that doesn't
work, then it must be gremlins.

Tony

Tried that 3 times. It isn't a conflict. What it appears to be is multiple
hacks
and sloppiness in the CCC application build.

Look I can't believe you guys aren't seeing these problems since it seems
fairly
obvious the applications are looking for files that simply don't get
installed
at all. Have you looked at the ACEE event log? At the information
messages_
These are not just information these are errors. Plus the occasional .net
exception when you actually use the CCC GUI? Do you have 'information'
events
filtered on your event logs? Better take a closer look_

'C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\skins\ccc-skins.xml'. - does
not
exist

'C:\Program Files\ATI
Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\Core-Static.xml'. - does not exist

'file:///C:\Branding.dll' - does not exist

Now exactly how is it that YOUR installation isn't looking for these same
files?
Or perhaps you HAVE these files? If so where did you get them? The files
are
absolutely NOT included in the install package_

I DO have the file
'C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\skins\skins.xml' but the
freaking app
isn't looking for that one.
\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static\Core-Static.xml simply
isn't
anywhere to be found_ Do you have this one??

There must be something else wrong with your system for you to be
encountering such difficulty with such a basic driver install. You're not

ATI Tray Tools for driver configuration.

Yea well this is a brand new system_ I JUST loaded XP, office, .net 1.1, 2, 3,
VS2005 and a couple other minor apps. It is a VERY clean setup. First time for
all the drivers and parts. I built it just last weekend so I don't think driver
conflict is the issue.
Asus p5b deluxe, 2 gig corsair 800 ram, Maxtor Sata 3 boot drive, seagate dual
320s in a raid0 array, HIS radeon x1650 video e6300 processor. Again EVERYthing
is fresh fresh fresh. I do software development so in addition to the standard
window and office 2003 I have VS-6 installed and VS-2005 also the developer
tools for SQL 2005... Other than that the machine is empty. No other apps or
programs running. All the board drivers are up to date and all the microsoft
patches and service packs are installed. You can't get a much cleaner setup than
this. Everything when absolutely great until I hit this ATI CCC driver. Total
mess from that point forward. I gave up on it and loaded ATI Tray Tools. Seems
to provide all the same tweaks and causes no issues with just the 7.2 drivers
alone.

Pisses me off a little because what I am seeing is clearly issues with the
drivers trying to access files than are not included in the msi files or any

seems to work fine BUT I can't put up with all the event log exceptions being
recorded. I need to pay close attention to the event logs because of my own
development programs. I need a clean running system so that if there IS an
exception I know it is something my developement is causing. Probably 90% of the
people out there wouldn't even notice the faults being recorded as long as
everything they where running didn't crash. The ATI stuff doesn't crash. It
seems to run just fine but the errors logged are not acceptable to me.

of the
people out there wouldn't even notice the faults being recorded as long as
everything they where running didn't crash. The ATI stuff doesn't crash.
It
seems to run just fine but the errors logged are not acceptable to me.

I do receive system event messages for the CCC, but they are all stored
under "ACEEventLog", i.e. not in "system" , "application" , or "security". I
get about 5-10 a day. They seem like harmless debug verbosity to me. No
complaints of missing files. Here they are:
