Problems upgrading from Win 98 to Win2k Professional

Matt Armbruster

I had Windows 98 on my computer for approximately two days
(it took awhile for me to even get THAT on the computer),
when I got ahold of Windows 2000 Professional, and decided
to upgrade to that. During installation of Windows 2k
Pro, my computer asked me if I wanted to use NTSF instead
of Fat32, I figured I wouldn't bother with NTSF because my
computer was beefy enough to deal with any negative
effects Fat32 would give (1 ghz processor with 512 megs
RAM). Later, a prompt came up telling me that my computer
_MAY_ have problems reading my modem after the upgrade, I
disregarded that as well and continued, and so, the
process was complete and I now had Win2k Pro. I was
annoyed when it wouldn't read my modem and wouldn't allow
me to get online so I tried fixing it... and nothing I'd
do seemed to work because my computer continuously failed
to even acknowledge my modem. I took out my modem,
started the computer up, shut it down properly, put the
modem back in and it STILL wouldn't acknowledge it so I
could attempt to fix it, so I tried one more time and my
monitor wouldn't start! I hooked up my other computer to
the same monitor and it worked fine, so now I'm stuck and
I have no idea how to fix any of my problems... some help
would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

Do a clean installation of Win2000. You will end up with a
robust, solid installation that is free from all sorts of problems
inherited from Win9x.
