Problems trying to create a record to point to an internal web (Wi

I am an Administrator of a Windows 2000 Active Directory. I have been
requested to create a DNS record to allow users to enter a three-character
name, and have it point to a longer-named Wiki site.

The entry I'm creating is called: EQX

The Wiki site I'm trying to point to is called:
http://dlswissapp1.fix.bulls.com:8080/dashboard.action

I've created a CNAME entry, but when I enter EQX into a browser, it just
goes to an internet search.

When I do a NSLOOKUP on EQX, it returns a NAME, but no ADDRESS or ALIAS
entries.

Can anyone give me advice and / or guidance to help me resolve this issue?
Thank you in advance...

DNS cannot do what you want by itself, what you can do, in combination with
a web server, is create a web site that answers to http://eqx, then have
that web server redirect you to
http://dlswissapp1.fix.bulls.com:8080/dashboard.action. This is easily done
in IIS.

In IIS management, create a new web site, in the wizard give it a host
header of eqx. After the wizard completes go to the properties of this site,
on the Home Directory tab, select a redirection to a URL and enter
http://dlswissapp1.fix.bulls.com:8080/dashboard.action in the field that
opens.
In DNS delete the eqx CNAME and create an eqx host that has this web
server's IP address. You might also wish to add a forward lookup zone named
eqx with a host that has the host name left blank and the same web server's
IP, for clients that may not have a DNS suffix search list.
You can also add additional host headers for other names you want redirected
to this site, like eqx.mydomain.com and so on.
