Problems storing ***MANY*** hyperlinks in a powerpoint presentatio

It seems like PowerPoint stores the hyperlink information in the Document
Summary storage area of the presentation. This storage area has a limit of 64
KB. The Document Summary storage contains all the document properties, custom
properties, references, and other similar data.

Because the Document Summary storage is used by different aspects of the
presentation, there is a finite number of hyperlinks that can be stored in
presentation. This is compounded by the fact that the longer the text is for
a hyperlink that you have to store, the fewer you can store.

IS THERE ANYWAY WE CAN GET ROUND THIS SIZE LIMIT BY INCREASING IT OR USE
ALTERNATIVE FILE STORAGE AREA?

None we've ever heard mentioned here. W/o changing PowerPoint itself, I don't
think this is possible.

One alternate approach that helps with internal links is to use very short slide
titles (that is, to replace the existing long title with a copy of the title
placeholder shape and change the text of the actual placeholder to something
very short).

Another approach is to create presentations that are actually sets of
interlinked smaller PPT files.

Hey, all is not lost.

Good point. Hey, how about a version that uses a tag instead of the shape's
text as the link? That'd kill a couple of stoned birds with one ... drat, I'm
out of nouns.

IAC, added a link to that here:
Lost hyperlinks, hyperlinks link to wrong place, hyperlinks stop working

Hmm. And while we're at it, what about a version that lets you toss
special-case instructions into the shape in place of hyperlink? Links to other
slides for example.
