Problems since installing legal Windows XP

I sustpect XP may be the cause of some of the problems I'm having with
FrontPage 2000. A little while ago, I installed a legal version of Windows XP
over an illegal version. I thought the new version would just 'upgrade' the
illegal one put I succeeded in wiping the whole hard drive. Ever since I
reinstalled everything, some things are different. The 2 things that I think
might be effecting FP are as follows:
1. EVERY time I open an Office Professional doc eg Word, I get this message
- First it says "Preparing to install" then " Please wait while windows
configures Microsoft Office 2000 Professional" then "gathering information".
I got to thinking that maybe this is also the cause of the other problem I'm
having:
2. In my family newsletter site, I create each newsletter in Word and save
it as a web document. I just like doing it that way and it's always worked
well for me. But now, everytime I open FP it asks me if I want to use FP as
my default editor and everytime I click 'yes' - but it still asks me
everytime I open FP. Then, when I open the docs that I originally created in
Word, they open in html. To open them so I can see them in FP, I have to
right click the doc and select FP as the editor. Then, instead of opening in
the word/web doc, it opens it as a FP page. Which means, I lose a lot of the
formatting and the pics are all placed in complicated tables and when I
upload it, the whole page may not upload - some bits may be mysteriously left
out.

If this is not the right forum to ask this question, I'd really appreciate
being pointed in the right direction.
Thanks
Barb

Right click on the IE icon on desktop and Select Properties\Programs and what is selected as your HTML Editor?

Hi Peter
There is nothing selected - it's just a blank field - and, in the drop down
box, only 'notepad' is visible.

Hi Plato
I 'inherited' the computer and purchased the legal version as soon as I
found out my XP was illegal. I always pay for my software. Otherwise, I can't
get help when I need it - and I often need it!!

Hi Sharon
I've had a look and a read through at this. With my recent experience, I'm a
bit hesitant. Is there anything that can go wrong if I do this? I presume I
only select Frontpage and the Office applications?

Nothing will go wrong. That file will fix your issues with office. I have
used it numerous times.

have you re installed office professional (after the XP
install)

try this as the administrator or a person with admin rights

also open my computer tools:folder options: file types: and
have a look for which programme is associated with .doc to
make sure the correct associations are there

Hi Geoff
Sorry to take so long to respond. Too much to do. Yes, I have installed
Office Professional after the XP install - 3 times. Nothing comes up about
being the administrator - it just installs.

I had a look in the tools and it says the extensions are:
Microsoft Word - DOC
Microsoft Wrod HTML - dochtml
Microsft Frontpage HTML doc - fphtml

Is that how it should be?
