Problems since having to reactivate windows xp

About a week ago, i was prompted to reenter my activation key for windows xp.
It would not allow me to continue unless I entered it. Since then, I've
had nothing but problems on trying to get my computer to turn off. I usually
have to go into Windows Task Manager and start turning off processess until
my machine finally will allow itself to be shut off. I understand that
Microsoft had some sort of update file that had people having to reenter
their activation code to ensure windows was not being pirated. I'm wondering
if there was something in that update that is now causing me problems and if
anyone knows how i can correct this problem.

Thanks

Laurie;
Which process do you need to stop before the computer will shut off?
Have you verified that process is not spyware, virus or other malware?
System Restore to a Date/Time before issue started.

Follow the yellow section on this link to help be sure the computer is free
of malware:
