Problems saving a spreadsheet

I have an old and trusted multiple worksheet spreadsheet that is now in MS
Excel 2007 running in Vista SP1 running on a Dell 530 desktop with 2 GB of
memory. When I try to save the file after either just viewing or working on
it, I get error messages like "Your changes could not be saved to
'Filename.xlsx' but were save to a temporary document 'CGEER345' (for
example; this file name changes each time- there is no file extension for
it). Close the existing document, then open the temporary document and save
it under a new name.". When I try to open this temporary file, I get an
error messaged like "The file you are trying to open, 'CGEER345', is in a
different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file
is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do
you want to open the file now?". If I again try to save I get "Your changes
could not be saved to 'Filename.xlsx' because of a sharing violation. Try
saving to a different file."

What gives? I have several other spreadsheets that do not display this
behavior- only one does. The file is local- it is on the C: drive of the
desktop computer and is not shared anywhere. Is this an Excel problem, or an
anti-virus problem (I use PC-Cillin).
