problems reading multisession DVDs

i burned a multisession DVD, gave it to a friend who has a system with the
same OS as myself (WindowsXP Home). he tells me his system cant read it.
Why? and is there a way around this problem?

Not all DVDs can read multisession disks. Your burning app
probably has warned you about this.

and is there a way around this problem?

Sure. Give them the drive or ask them to upgrade.
