I have been trying to re-install my Win2K and have been encountering
some problems. I usually have three hard drives installed, but for
this install I disconnected the two secondary drives and left the
master that contained the OS. I've had a couple different things
happen.

1) I was running the install off my floppies. When it was going
through the setup, it gave me an error saying it could not find a hard
drive.

2) The second time, I ran the clean install off the CD. I can get
into Windows, which makes the error in case 1 strange. This goes fine
through the first step. Upon re-booting, when the computer loads it
gives me the following error:

0x0000007B
Inaccessible boot device

Can anyone assist me with this? I've had on-going problems with
trying to re-install Win2K. The last time I had to do this, once I
finally got it working I still encountered some on-going errors
despite the clean install.

I'm thinking of just re-formatting the hard drive completely and
starting from scratch. Can someone walk me through this process as
well?

Thanks!

Verify that the remaining drive is configured correctly as master w/no slaves.

In addition to Eric Mcg's reply. You didn't mention the drive controller
(possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you
may need to boot the Windows 2000 setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early
and very important (at setup is inspecting your system) in the setup to
prevent drive controller detection, and select S to specify additional
drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to insert the manufacturer supplied
Windows 2000 driver for your drive's controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

Okay, I'll give that a try. A couple other things that led up to this
point:

-when i tried to do an install on top of my existing setup, it went
through and did this. two problems came up:

1 - the "windows installer" window keeps popping up whenever the
system boots up or whenever i try to load a program.

2 - i cannot get into my dsl setup. though my ethernet adapter seems
to be working correctly according to windows, it is not being
recognized when i try to establish a connection.

i am pretty positive that my drive is set correctly as a master, but i
will doublecheck. it is my boot drive with my os on it, and always
has been.

is there a chance this drive is corrupted and if so, how should i
repair it?

thanks for all your insight. it's a big help...

Most likely just the controller driver issue.
